The proper design of flashing installation.



  • The design of flashing installation is required to avoid entry of precipitation and snow-melt into the building assembly at junction between claddings elements and over exterior wall openings. Flashing must be designed to be installed at (see figure)

  • Every horizontal junction between claddings elements.

  • Every horizontal offset in the cladding, and

  • Every horizontal line where the cladding substrate change and where, (i) The substrates differ sufficiently for stresses to be concentrated along that line. or (ii) The installation of the cladding on the lower substrate may compromise the drainage of moisture from behind the cladding above.

  • Over exterior wall openings where the vertical distance from the bottom of the eave to the top of the trim is more than on-quarter of the horizontal overhang of the eave.
